Minster Surreal

Last night Philip and I decided to get out of the house and go for a walk in York. It's really a very beautiful city at night, especially right now with all of the white Christmas lights. But as we approached the Minster, we saw something entirely unexpected.

The whole front facade of the Minster was bathed in coloured light and giant roaming snowflake. It was absolutely bizarre. The way the building was illuminated, it was like some giant digital cutout. It just didn't look like it was real anymore. It really looked like it had been pasted there after having been colourized. The Minster is already an unusual sight to my eyes because it's such a large and impressive building, but then for it to be completely covered in light and snowflakes was truly surreal. One of the strangest things I think I've ever seen.

Slytherin Scarf (again)

It seems like lately I've been getting quite a few comments posted to my weblog by people asking where they can find the official WB Slytherin scarf.

The answer: You can't. You are exactly one year too late. Sorry.

Baka

This morning we got a somewhat uplifting phone call - the police have caught our house thief!! Or well - they WILL be catching him. Apparently he's in jail right now, but the very moment they release him, he's going to get picked up again. It was the near-perfect fingerprints he conveniently left on a power strip when he unplugged stuff.

When is it right?

On and off for the past several years I've kind of been considering getting a tattoo. There's plenty of arguements against them, mostly surrounding the fact that it is a very permanent mark made to the skin. There's also plenty of cultural significance around them, but I'm talking your basic young white girl thinking about getting one.

I can't say I agree with those people who suddenly decide to go get one, or think it'd be really "cute" to have a little flower or butterfly on their shoulder. People's tastes change and before you know it, that little butterfly is really stupid. But what if the symbol chosen is well thought out? What if it represents something that has stayed with you steadily for years? What if its custom drawn by the person who is going to have it? Does it then change from something inappropriate to something right and proper?

I've lived with the fox as a totem symbol for many years now and I am starting to think that enough time has passed that I should be able to carry it on my skin with decorum. The drawing I'm working on right now is of a kitsune - a Japanese fox-woman, dressed in kimono. I'll have to see how it turns out. Another thing I was thinking about was seperating out one of the foxes in the Japanese woodblock print I own. I like how each of the foxes in that print has their own little ball of foxfire floating around them. But no matter what, it isn't a decision I'll make haphazardly.

Kitten Kisses

I'm sure there are those out there who will probably find this really sick and disturbing for any number of reasons, but I've managed to teach Olo how to kiss lips. It's actually really adorable! I get lots of kisses every day, especially when he's cuddled up near my face and sometimes he'll reach out especially to give them if he's sitting nearby. I think he's really sweet for putting up with me, especially as even when he doesn't want to be held, he'll give me a kiss in exchange for being put down. Tehehe.

Still here.

I'm still alive. :) I think lately I haven't been making any entries because I've got so many things I'd like to post pictures of, but without my own computer and my graphics programmes, its just impossible. In other news, my diet is still working and I'm probably thinner then I've ever been before, which isn't necessarily saying much, but its a good start for me.

Also, it looks like I might end up doing business design of all things. Logos, business cards, letter heads. Who would have guessed? If I'm not careful, I might get designer cooties. Ewwww.
